The trouble with Netflix

Lynn Chu April 28, 2022
For me, personally, the only thing Netflix has going for it at the moment is its originality.

REVIEW: ‘Broken Hearts Gallery’ contrived and tired, but light-hearted and fun

Sarah Wager September 16, 2020
The film portrays the classic rom-com formula with a bit of a fresh spin, and the results are bittersweet, comical and sometimes disturbing.

REVIEW: Netflix’s ‘The Silence’ is yet another forgettable mess

Pat LaMarco April 17, 2019
At this point, it seems very likely Netflix simply does not care about an entire portion of its content.

REVIEW: Netflix’s ‘Pine Gap’ is a dull and sluggish attempt at a thriller

Pat LaMarco December 9, 2018
If you have never heard of “Pine Gap” before, that’s OK. Netflix certainly did not put too much effort into its marketing campaign.

REVIEW: Netflix’s ‘Angela’s Christmas’ provides sweet holiday story, broadens Netflix content

Pat LaMarco December 2, 2018
Netflix's “Angela’s Christmas” is a perfectly entertaining and cute film that would appeal to very young audiences, but it has been buried under the mountain of new releases.

REVIEW: Netflix’s ‘Sabrina, the Teenage Witch’ reboot revitalizes story with dark plot

Mary Katherine Moore October 28, 2018
In the spirit of Halloween, Netflix unveiled its new series, “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” Friday. Equal parts eerie and thrilling, the show takes on a much darker tone than its ‘90s sitcom predecessor, “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

REVIEW: “Maniac” captivates with stars Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, takes on dark topics

Pat LaMarco September 23, 2018
Netflix original “Maniac” is overwhelmingly weird and fills viewers with confusion with constant twists and turns in the plot. The show has provoked strong reactions, and some fans went as far as comparing the show to cult classic “Twin Peaks.”

REVIEW: ‘Sierra Burgess is a Loser’ romanticizes catfishing, fails to live up to hype

Johnathan D. Kindall September 9, 2018
“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser,” which released Friday on Netflix, feels like a glorified, slightly higher-budget Disney Channel original movie. And as much as I love “High School Musical,” that’s certainly not a compliment. Borderline unwatchable at worst and a hesitant guilty pleasure at best, “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” tells the story of Sierra, an awkward high school girl who finds herself in an unexpected romance after her classmate, popular cheerleader Veronica, gives Sierra’s number to Jamey, the quarterback of another local high school.
