The afternoon sun streams in through the eyelet cotton curtains, coating the room in a warm amber glow. A collage of clothing items lies on the pink and green patchwork comforter: A few stray scarves, two woolen army hats, a small children’s shirt embroidered with multicolored cross-stitching. These are items my grandma would take out to show me while we wait for her friends to arrive for a game of Mahjong.

Not to throw around cliches, but expressing yourself through fashion is just another way to “wear your heart on your sleeve,” both in the figurative and fabric sense. 

Boston University’s fashion identity is vast and diverse, but a staple among all students’ wardrobes seems to be an emphasis on sustainability and upcycle-ability.
