City Council to discuss diversity in City departments

Boston City Council President Andrea Campbell and District 5 City Councilor Timothy McCarthy filed a hearing order Wednesday to assess diversity in law enforcement and public safety agencies across the city.

Residents disagree on Yawkey Way name change

The Boston Public Improvement Commission unanimously voted Thursday to change the name of Yawkey Way next to Fenway Park back to its original name, Jersey Street. Residents of the Greater Boston area had conflicting opinions on the name change, some in favor and some strongly opposed to the change.

In an effort to generate long-term investment in low-income areas, on April 19, Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration proposed 138 neighborhoods across Massachusetts, including Boston, become “Opportunity Zones.”

The Boston Marathon, an annual tradition since 1897, rightfully attracts its very own superfans — many of whom show up to the course hours in advance, no matter the weather, to root for their favorite runners with enthusiastic cheers and homemade signs.

As of last week, Massachusetts became the only state in the country that does not provide ignition interlock options for first drunk driving offenses after Idaho implemented this type of law in March.

Walsh administration to increase parking fines, implement transportation infrastructure

The City of Boston has not raised its parking ticket fines in 10 years — until now. Boston Mayor Martin Walsh announced Monday that he will allocate $5 million to improve infrastructure in the city as part of a new transportation plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
