Boston University’s School of Social Work held a panel discussion Nov. 17 on health care equity in the United States and the steps that should be taken during the next four years.

But ultimately, this month is about suicide prevention, an issue that requires systemic change, not just personal intentions. Similar to antiracism, bettering our approach to mental health requires not only individual work, but also legislative and societal change. 

State senators released legislation that would tackle issues in all facets of the Massachusetts mental health care system, in which services remain inaccessible to many who need them.
