Fares will be free on buses across Massachusetts outside of Boston starting in November. The MBTA has taken strides towards a fare-free future by improving the bus map and offering a pilot program.

Fall 2020 commuter rail ridership was down roughly 92 percent compared to the previous year, while ferry ridership fell 88 percent, according to the MBTA.
