Decentering romantic relationships

Chloe Saint Mard February 10, 2025
Somewhere along the line, we were sold the idea that romantic love is the ultimate prize and that being single is some kind of failure. We’ve been conditioned to think that if you're not in a relationship, you're somehow incomplete. But, here’s the truth — romantic love is just one kind of love. It’s not the centerpiece of life unless you make it that way. Honestly, that’s a pretty fragile foundation to build your happiness on.

My cloudy day soundtrack | Liv Listens

Olivia Stapleton September 24, 2024
For the last edition of Liv Listens, I wrote about songs I listen to when I go for walks to clear my head. This week, I’ve been cooped up in my dorm, trying to get homework done while ignoring how sluggish the cloudy weather has been making me feel.  In weeks like this, I find myself in two moods. The first is a mood in which I desperately want to succumb to the gloomy weather and nap all day. When I feel like this, I listen to slow music, read leisurely, watch “Twilight” and procrastinate doing my work.

Ask Abby (or Analise): Labels are not just for filing

Analise Bruno February 25, 2024
Dear Abby: Hear me out. I’ve been seeing this person for a while and we always have a great time together. The issue? I don’t know what to call us! I guess we’re dating, but when will we be ready for more? Am I moving too fast? Or should we already be labeled?

‘Coquette’ and ‘balletcore’ aesthetics bring en pointe fashion to 2024

Rachel Yu February 9, 2024
Before “coquette” was painted as an aesthetic, people would use the term to describe a young woman who flirts and seduces men. However, with the rise of the eloquent trend throughout the early 2010s, the term has changed its interpretation to glamorize and romanticize the dainty and pretty pink things in life.

Andrew DiBiasio October 24, 2023
Stuck in a TikTok rut this morning, I scrolled past a girl in a tin foil dress dressed as a Chipotle burrito. Students all across the country are getting creative, but can they beat the celebrities and their iconic renditions? I’m here to feature 10 that I think could give everyone a run for their money — or in this case, candy.

The low-down on ‘Lolita’: how pop culture rewrote Nabokov’s brilliance | Mad Women

Hailey Pitcher September 19, 2023
“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth.” These three opening lines are from Russian author Vladimir Nabokov’s 1955 magnum opus, “Lolita.”

Julia Maruca November 8, 2018
Boxed in behind two MIDI keyboards on a cramped wooden stage, producer and DJ ayokay barely stood still for a moment, bouncing and jumping back and forth to the beat along with the crowd. Ayokay, whose real name is Alex O’Neill, performed a sold-out show Sunday night at the Great Scott in Allston.
