Has reading become a performance?

At its core, this shift isn’t about literature — it’s about looking like a reader. Books have become an accessory, a personality trait and a status symbol. As a result, people are reading more visibly than ever. The joy of getting lost in a story, of struggling with complex ideas and of truly reading seems to be fading.

Mayor Michelle Wu and former Acting Mayor Kim Janey received this year’s Champion Award during a reception on Thursday from the Boston Arts Academy Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that raises funds for the Boston Arts Academy. Previous recipients include Rep. Ayanna Pressley, former Governor Charlie Baker and Governor Maura Healey.

An Allston-Brighton park was formally renamed to memorialize James H. Roberts, a Black WWII veteran, following a 50-year delay in the process brought on by a clerical error.

Stars talk historical significance behind ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’

The film "Judas and the Black Messiah," premiering Friday in theaters, tells the story of Fred Hampton, the deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the revolutionary Black Panther Party who was assassinated by police at 21 years old. At a roundtable discussion of college journalists, stars from the film discussed the history of the film and the activists they played.
