Why I want to be a filmmaker, even when it feels impossible

Isabella Laikin March 27, 2025
My pursuit of filmmaking isn't about accolades or recognition — it’s about the opportunity to tell stories that resonate deeply, challenge perceptions and contribute to a broader cultural conversation.

An ode to Audrey Hepburn | It’s All Been Done Before

Erica Schwartz March 5, 2025
Hepburn was a style icon for what she specifically wore, but I think she was even more iconic for wearing what she wanted without any regret.

There’s no place like home

Keira Footer February 26, 2025
I’m worried that something similar might happen when I return from college. Instead of feeling comfortable and relieved, I’ll feel unfamiliar and awkward, like I’m staying at a friend’s house for a week before I return to Boston. I’ve often heard sayings such as “home is where the heart is,” but how am I supposed to call this new place “home” without the proper time to love it?

The myth of escape

Gabriel Martins February 21, 2025
But growing is inevitable, regardless of where you are. We have this mentality that we must evolve or die, but evolving doesn’t mean changing your life dramatically. We evolve in little ways every day— even if it’s in the courage it takes to live at home.

‘That summer feelin’ is gonna haunt you one day in your life’

Ruby Voge October 17, 2024
I don’t think of the uncertainty and powerlessness that can sometimes accompany childhood — the inverse of its innocence and lack of responsibility.  Nostalgia paints our memories into cinematic narratives. It colors them gold and pink like a late summer sunset. Nostalgia gives us something to fantasize about — to take us out of the monotony of the present and into the excitement of the past.

Tantrums to teenage years: Navigating birthdays

Isabella Panichi March 27, 2024
I realize that it’s not the sleepover you have with your two friends at the age of six that makes you a "big girl", but at the same time, I’m not sure it is your age that makes you older either. If anything, I feel like I have regressed to the whiny sixteen-year-old girl who I used to be. Is it possible to hate who you were at sixteen when you are nineteen, but become her at twenty?

Sonny Angel revived my inner child

Isabella Panichi November 26, 2023
When purchasing a pack of cards, some Squinkies, or Shopkins, you could never be sure about what exactly you were going to get. There is a vast appeal in the blind bag, an appeal that still persists in the form of gambling, subscription boxes and even Tinder.

An ode to my younger self

Gabriella Di Dea November 8, 2023
I’ve lived a lot of my life doing things in order to make my younger self proud, and I think that 6-year-old, wide-eyed me would be more than proud to see where I am today. So, I’d like to write a small ode to her and tell her of all the things I wish someone had told me.

‘Twilight’ still holds up

Ayjia Stanford November 1, 2023
Since the genesis of my “Twilight” awakening, I have seen the film upwards of 10 times. I watched it most frequently as a kid, but for the past few years, it’s served as a welcomed respite from the stress of work and school, transporting me back to my childhood. So when I saw the Coolidge Corner Theater was showing “Twilight” on Oct. 19, I knew I had to go.

ToonTown Rewritten: A decade long love letter to determination and your childhood

Michelle Grullon October 29, 2023
If you grew up with a computer at home, you’ve likely played a game or two online. Many people may share the same memory of rushing to your computer after a long day of school and going on a number of sites like Club Penguin or Movie Star Planet. But today, most of those sites are dormant.
