Many students expressed frustration after being placed on the Boston University Study Abroad waitlist due to interest reaching an all time high for the Spring 2024 semester.
Boston University is introducing several new classes within study abroad programs in upcoming semesters that will open up opportunities for STEM students to learn overseas.
Gareth McFeely, executive director of Study Abroad, said the decision was motivated by the same pandemic-related concerns that prevented the University from running the program last summer.
Despite the cancellation of all in-person study abroad programs for the Spring semester, students were able to take part in virtual internships with international companies to get real work experience and a feel for a new culture.
The Boston University Shanghai Internship Program was canceled for the Spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those accepted into the program were a cohort of international students living in China, who are now re-registering for classes on the Charles River Campus.
BU is assessing the feasibility of moving forward with its Spring 2021 Study Abroad programs next semester, looking at each country on a case-by-case basis.
