Boston University Associate Professor of Philosophy Daniel Star announced the creation of an American Association of University Professors chapter on campus in a tweet Saturday.
Spring 2021 promises to be an exciting and unpredictable semester for Boston University. As BU goes forward with its Learn from Anywhere model, it remains to be seen how the University will adapt to vastly different circumstances from the Fall.
Overall, the efforts BU has made on GivingTuesday should still be recognized. But, the administration should remember that in order for its fundraising to make a genuine impact, it first and foremost needs to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
We were extremely lucky to have made it through the Fall so far without a major outbreak on campus, but we are pushing our luck to think we can do the same this Spring without fine-tuning our safety measures.
However, the school’s preparations have consistently centered only on its undergraduate student population. While it has done an incredible job catering to this group, it has failed other members of both the BU and Boston community: graduate students, faculty and local residents.
