Call me biased because I ran cross country all four years of high school, but nothing is more consistent when it comes to surrounding the spirit of Boston athletics with magic than the Boston Marathon.
The marathon demonstrates how Boston traditions continue to persevere and connect us during a time of severe isolation. Perhaps it can also inspire us to fight against the COVID-19 fatigue and keep us Boston Strong through the last stretch of the pandemic.
Boston is a city rich with diverse backgrounds and culture. It deserves to be served by those who appreciate these attributes instead of diminishing them down to a joke.
However, the school’s preparations have consistently centered only on its undergraduate student population. While it has done an incredible job catering to this group, it has failed other members of both the BU and Boston community: graduate students, faculty and local residents.
