The entire concept of leadership is arbitrary, varied by culture and thus a cause of needless stress. Which is to say, if there were ever a time for universities to loosen their expectations for students and potential applicants, perhaps a global pandemic would be a great start.
Rather than attaching a label to young children, we could invest in a schoolwide enrichment model that is available to all students, allowing for more equitable and healthy academic growth.
The issue of standardized testing is that universities can make it optional, but they can’t get rid of it or the system perpetuating its flaws. We need a fundamental change so all students receive a solid foundational education that starts as early as elementary school.
If BU wants to make sure its students are staying safe and healthy, it must take into consideration our mental health and provide us with significant breaks that are comparable to, or even more supportive, than our absent Spring Recess.
After almost a year of living under pandemic restrictions, experiencing a record drop in employment and witnessing an increase in mental health problems as a result, a minimum wage raise to $15 an hour, or higher, is more crucial now than ever before.
