Real Talk: How Young Journalists Navigate Their Careers
Sonia Rao
The Washington Post
Sonia Rao is a pop culture reporter at The Washington Post, where she has written for Style since joining the section as a summer intern in 2017. She primarily writes about the film industry, though she covers other aspects of culture as well. She graduated from Boston University in December 2017 after spending back-to-back semesters as the features and managing editor at The Daily Free Press, and a year at The Boston Globe as a Living/Arts co-op. When she isn’t watching movies for work, Sonia watches movies for fun.
Felicia Gans
The Boston Globe
Felicia Gans is a producer and reporter for the cannabis team at The Boston Globe, where she has overseen the digital strategy of the Globe’s marijuana section since its launch in November 2018. Gans also writes a daily marijuana newsletter called “The Daily Rip.” She started at the Globe covering crime and general assignment stories in 2015 and began full-time on the overnight desk after graduating from Boston University two years later. On the overnight shift, she led homepage strategy, keeping readers informed on everything from national politics and sports triumphs to local crime waves and natural disasters. Gans is an alum of The Daily Free Press, where she won two regional awards for the newspaper during her term as editor-in-chief.
