‘It starts by listening’: Accessibility has a long way to go at BU

Walking up the stairs is difficult for Boston University junior Caine Murcia. With a disability that makes half of their body go numb, they have to use an elevator to access other floors. Inaccessibility in classroom buildings impedes their ability to learn. They are not alone in their challenges.

In Studio West in the Boston University College of Communication, students assumed their respective positions on the anchor desk, behind the camera, in front of the teleprompter and at the control board. BU student journalists across varying mediums have poured hours of dedication into creating comprehensive, impartial news coverage for campus organizations of the 2024 Presidential Election on Nov. 5.

To celebrate the historic inauguration of Boston University’s president, Melissa Gilliam, BU student groups showcased their various talents the week prior to the inauguration. The events united singers, dancers and musicians across campus to not only honor Gilliam, but commemorate a new era in the University’s history.
